Church and Charlie Kirk

As we are approaching the second week mark post Charlie Kirk’s assasination, there are some things that need to be discussed.
Not to the people who do not yet believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, but to the church- the ones who do believe in Christ. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 5:12NLV “It is not for me to judge those outside of the church. You are to judge those who belong to the church”.
I’m discouraged watching people who claim to be believers of Christ ridicule and berate those who do not believe in Christ and turn a blind eye to what is happening in their own church. It is clear- God does not give us permission to place judgement over anyone who is not in Christ. Instead, we are called to forgive the unbelievers who have celebrated Charlie Kirk’s death and pray for them. Show them the very love that Christ has shown us.
Why is that?
Believers are meant to carry the gospel. How can a believer carry the gospel- the very gospel that wiped them clean of their sins through the redemption of Christ’s blood and forgiveness, when they are not willing to extend that same forgiveness to the sinners across from them? They can’t. Or at least can’t carry it well or effectively.
We see in James 2:22 NLT that our faith is made complete by our actions. So tell me this- what faith is being backed up by the actions of accusing and ridiculing those who do not know Christ for their thoughts and opinions on Charlie Kirk’s death?
Now, Church, Bride of Christ, fellow brothers and sisters in God’s house- let’s talk.
Eleven days have passed since Charlie Kirk has died. In those 11 days, a spiritual awakening has struck not only the United States of America, but the world. Politicians have been praying and preaching the gospel from public platforms, worship to Christ has been breaking out in streets across the globe, thousands upon thousands have given their lives to Christ. And yet, some churches and some pastors are refusing to address this. Worse yet, some pastors have been recorded saying that Charlie deserved to die. Eleven days have proven to be eleven great opportunities to reveal truth on the spiritual state of many churches. For the better or for the worse.
Be grateful for the revelation, but do not sit idly and planted in a church who is remaining silent or speaking hate from their hearts. Speak truth and if they do not hear it- don’t stay.
Now you may be asking right now “why is this an issue?”.
This is an issue that calls for action because pastors and churches are called to be places that speak truth and teach believers how to navigate the situations that arise in this world. As the bride of Christ, we need to be taught about how to persist in faith as we fight the good fight. This is so that when the false prophets, fake signs and wonders to distract, and deception described in Matthew 24 arise, we will be able to recognize it for what it is and not be deceived. Jesus literally told his disciples in Matthew 24 that even some of God’s chosen people would be deceived. The warning Jesus gave us was clearly not just for those outside of the body of Christ, but for those in it!
For pastors, this should be spiritually earth shaking! It should increase their vigilance for the people that have been entrusted to them to teach. The ones who have chosen to stay silent and proceed with their “regular scheduled programming” are communicating plenty. See, behavior is communication. They could not be louder in their silence on Charlie’s death that they do not care enough if their church members are one day deceived. They do not care enough that their church members may have come into church the past two Sundays seeking guidance and hope amongst the widespread grief and were left to fend for themselves. They have chosen a false sense of peace to shove a massive move of God under the rug of their church.
These days are precious. Our days are limited and few. How long do you really want to stay being spiritually led by people who don’t open their mouths to Earth shaking spiritual events?
In our generation, especially for the youth in the world today, this is one of the most incredible displays of Romans 8:28NLT “And we know that God causes everything to work for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them”. Yes, Charlie Kirk died, but look at what is happening through his life? Is that not God’s promise on display for Erika, one who loves God? Is that still not a fulfillment of God’s promise for Charlie while he sits at the feet of Jesus now? For pastors, what an amazing time to be called to preach. And yet they remain focused on their own agendas.
If you sat in a church the last two Sundays and faced a silent or hateful pastor and need help processing what’s going on today, reach out to The Adi Project today. We’d love to help you walk through this time and show you God’s call on your life through all of this or join with you in prayer.
